I don't understand

So the last time I was at this gas station, Sunoco I think, its on the corner of 305 & Euclid, I wanted to get a "fill-up" and the guy made me leave my driver's license. I go there today and try to give the guy my license and he looks at me like "What the hell am I supposed to do with this?" He then said to me "What the hell am I supposed to do with this?" I said that I wanted to get a "fill-up" and he mumbled something so I just said to gimme 20 on 5. I. Just. Don't. Understand.
